XGL on Fedora Core 5

HOWTO install and enable XGL (not AIGLX) on FC5

1. Follow the instructions on –> http://fedoraxgl.tuxfamily.org/index.php?title=Installation_en. Do NOT enable XGL before (2.)

2. Edit “/usr/share/gdm/defaults.conf” and set the “GdmXserverTimeout” to “60” (If you update GDM, you have to do it again)

3. Enable XGL with:

$ gnome-xgl-switch --enable-xgl --auto

4. Cofigure the server with:

$ gset-compiz

have fun ;o)
If you ever want to disable XGL, just run:

$ gnome-xgl-switch --disable-xgl --auto

Keyboard Shortcuts:

- Switch windows = Alt + Tab
- Arrange and View All Windows = Move the mouse cursor to the right top corner of desktop
- Switch desktops on cube = Ctrl + Alt + Left/Right Arrow
- Switch desktops on cube - with active window following = Ctrl + Shift + Alt + Left/Right Arrow
- Zoom-in once = Super-key right-click # does not work yet on fc5
- Move window = Alt + left-click
- Snap Move window (will stick to borders) = Ctrl + Alt + left-click # (a aha uiiiiiiiiiiii)
- Resize window = Alt + right-click
- Zoom entire screen = Super-Key + right-click
- Zoom-in manually = Super-key + wheel mouse up
- Zoom-out manually = Super-key + wheel mouse down
- Make window translucent/opaque  = Alt + mouse wheel up/down
- Slow Motion =  Shift + F10

- compiz OR compiz-quinn
- xorg-x11-server-Xgl
- fedora-xgl-settings
- gset-compiz
- xgl-hardware-list
- glitz
- libsvg-cairo
- libsvg

 

NOTE: There are other ways to install Fedora-XGL, like the one from “ework”. Search for them on fedoraforum.org.
